In fact, after further thought, I realized that the romantic and interpersonal storylines interwoven throughout my thriller series is vital to making readers care about what happens to the characters and root for them along the way. Without the hopes, fears, and heartache associated with love, the characters wouldn’t be relatable. And if finding or saving love isn’t the ultimate prize, (be it a romantic love, love of friends and family, or love of self) then the outcome doesn’t seem to matter much.
So, on this Valentine’s Day, I’m going to continue working on my next thriller knowing that the bit of romance I sprinkle in along the way will make all the difference in the (happy) end.
